Kumquat- Geschichte

Kumquat stammt aus Süd Japan und China, wo sie seit dem 12. Jahrhundert angebaut wird. Seitdem wird sie systematisch in Japan, Taiwan, den Philippinnen und in ganz Südasien angebaut. Sein Name bedeutet auf Chinesisch wegen seiner sehr geringen Größe „goldene Orange”. In Europa tauchte sie erstmals 1846 durch Robert Fortune auf und wurde somit ab Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts als Zierpflanze kultiviert. In Griechenland und speziell auf Korfu erschien 1924 der britische Agronom Sidney Merlin, der den ersten Kumquat-Baum auf seiner Farm pflanzte. Seitdem wird sie systematisch auf Korfu angebaut. Kumquat-Bäume gedeihen hauptsächlich im nordwestlichen Teil der Insel und sind eines der Hauptprodukte der Insel.

Kumquat ist ein Baum, der zur Kategorie der Zitrusfrüchte gehört und eine Höhe von 2,5 Metern nicht überschreitet. Die Frucht reift im Dezember und verfärbt sich wie bei anderen Zitrusfrüchten von grün nach orange. Daher ist die beste Erntezeit von Januar bis Februar. Sie eignet sich hervorragend für Liköre, Marmeladen und Desserts. Es passt perfekt zu Schokolade, Kaffee und Karamell. Während sein süß-säuerlicher Geschmack Wintergemüse wie Spinat in speziellen Salaten hervorhebt.

Kumquats sind kalorienarm: 100 Gramm frisches Obst liefern nur 71 Kalorien und sind reich an Nährstoffen wie:
