Extra information
Pick-up: Your experience begins with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel or any location of your choice. From there, we’ll head deep into the authentic heart of Santorini, far beyond the typical postcard views.
Messaria Village: Our first stop is the historic village of Messaria, once the most aristocratic neighborhood of the island during the 19th century. Stroll among neoclassical mansions and the famous "Captain’s Houses," which reflect the elegance and wealth of Santorini’s past maritime elite. This hidden gem offers a quiet charm and a glimpse into the island’s noble past.
Pyrgos Village & Monastery: Next, we ascend to the highest point of the island – the village of Pyrgos. Here, we'll visit the 18th-century Monastery of Prophet Elias, still active and inhabited by Greek Orthodox monks. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the entire caldera and surrounding islands. You’ll have the opportunity to sample handmade organic products made by the monks themselves – from wine and olive oil to herbal infusions. Our guide will offer an introduction to Greek Orthodoxy, accompanied by traditional chanting and hauntingly beautiful Byzantine music – a deeply spiritual moment. Afterwards, a short walk through Pyrgos reveals stone alleyways, castle ruins, and tales from when the village served as the island's capital during the turbulent pirate era.
Akrotiri Village & Red Beach: Then we travel to Akrotiri, home to one of Santorini’s best-preserved medieval castles. Discover how locals lived and defended themselves in times of fear and invasion. Hear fascinating legends of rulers, rebels, and ordinary people who made this fortress their home 500 years ago. We’ll also explore the contemporary side of Akrotiri – the quieter daily life of villagers today, far from the tourist crowds. As a bonus, we’ll peek inside an abandoned house from the previous century – a true time capsule of old Santorini. Before we leave, a brief visit to the island’s legendary Red Beach is a must – a natural marvel shaped by volcanic history.
Emporio Village: Our final stop is the enchanting village of Emporio. Often overlooked by visitors, Emporio hides a labyrinth of narrow alleys, fortified houses, and defensive towers built to withstand pirate attacks. Your guide will lead you through this medieval maze, revealing how each tiny door, bell tower, and hidden passage had its purpose. We begin at the main square and admire the grand Orthodox church before diving into the heart of the old settlement. If time allows, we’ll make an optional visit to the nearby Black Beach and the charming chapel of Agia Irini (Santa Irina) – believed to be the inspiration behind the island’s name Santorini.
Drop-off: As the day winds down, we’ll drive you back to the place where we first met – leaving you with unforgettable memories of the Santorini most visitors never see.
Optional: Wine tasting during sunset time or Lunch at traditional or modern Greek tavern by the seafront.
